Mox Nix
(From "Playground")
This is a more obscure Art Farmer/Benny Golson tune from back in the day. I studied it as a horn tune, and the lyric came to me in pieces over time. It all started with "I can teach you how to swing, but it really ain't no thing / That's what Mox Nix says now." Mox Nix was a term that American GI's brought back from Germany during the second World War. It's a slang expression derived from the German language that means "no worries" or "don't worry about it." Just like jazz - no worries, you dig?
The shout chorus on the way out goes like this:
(c) Liz Johnson 2003
There's no other way that you can say it
Dig the feeling
Everything is right
Mox Nix'n got nothin' to prove now
There's only one way to get in the groove
So baby let your hair flip
It might do the trick
Playin' fast or slow to find where you and swingin' threaten to conspire
So just take a sip
You relax in the groove
Find yourself flying higher
You heard it here Mox Nix say nothin' gonna stop the flow you're feeling
Baby, let it take you all the way -----
