This ballad means more to me than I'll ever be able to put into words. I brought an idea of a melody and 2 lines of lyrics to Lori Mechem and it began to take on a life of its own. I wrote it from the perspective of someone who had just lost a life partner. I imagined an old woman sitting alone in the house after just losing her husband and best friend. She's in that bittersweet place where she misses him so much that it aches, and simulaneously feels overwhelmed with gratitude for their relationship - a relationship that made her life full and loving and bright.

When I finished the lyric to this tune I couldn't stop crying. The tears flowed like a river and my heart felt like it was going to explode. The words came through me, and later I realized they came to help heal the loss of my relationship with my partner. I only hope this song makes a difference to someone else too . . .

We were born to love and to be loved.
